Woolwich council to discuss potential housing development in St. Jacobs

Could a fair-sized housing development be coming to a small corner in St. Jacobs?

Woolwich council will be hearing from the public on Tuesday evening over the potential development in the south end of town.

The 2.4-acre site is located at 1128-1134 Printery Rd. in St. Jacobs and is being proposed by GSP Group. The company is asking for a bylaw amendment to turn the lot from an R-1 residential zone into an R-6 zone. R-1 zones allow for single dwelling homes, while an R-6 is for high-density projects, including townhouses, fourplexes and apartments.

A concept plan for the development shows it would build 29 units between five medium-density row townhouses with 11 driveways and one private road with access onto Printery Road. It says it could hold up to 71 people.

Several members of the community have sent in correspondence to council ahead of the meeting, voicing their concerns with the potential development, including parking, traffic in the area, density, water pressure in the area and a possible increase in crime.

Council will be hearing from the group and the public during the meeting, and no final decisions will be made.

The public meeting begins at 7 p.m.
