Bridge work brings overnight Highway 401 closures in North Dumfries

The Ministry of Transportation is once again warning drivers of a pair of overnight closures coming to Highway 401 as the rehabilitation of the Roseville Road bridge in North Dumfries continues.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night, drivers can expect the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 to close from Cedar Creek Road in Ayr, through to the area of Homer Watson Boulevard and Fountain Street South. That work is expected to be wrapped around 6 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The next day, westbound lanes of Highway 401 will see a similar closure; the westbound 401 will close on Thursday night at 7 p.m. from Homer Watson Boulevard and Fountain Street South, right through to Cedar Creek Road. That closure will be in place until 6 a.m. Friday.

The duo of closures are expected to be in place for the removal of temporary supports and structures used by workers around the Roseville Road bridge.

Traffic on the 401 impacted by these overnight closures can expect to be detoured onto nearby local roadways.

For those who frequently travel through the area of Roseville Road on Highway 401, these closures may seem familiar: a similar overnight closure was rolled out back in late July when that construction falsework was installed.

Work on the bridge had been expected to be wrapped up by Nov. 21. In an email to 570 NewsRadio, the Ministry of Transportation has since indicated that final steps may take a bit longer.

“Work started in July and was scheduled for completion this year, however due to cold weather, the final steps including paving cannot be completed until early next year.” reads that statement.
