Fire closes public school in Guelph, students learning remotely

Students attending classes at Mitchell Woods Public School in Guelph will be doing so remotely on Wednesday.
News was shared by the Upper Grand District School Board earlier on Wednesday morning due to an apparent fire in the school’s mechanical room on Tuesday night.
The public school, located on Willow Road in Guelph, will be closed to all staff and students on Wednesday, while board staff are expected to provide updates throughout the day “as more information becomes available.”
There’s no word on whether any injuries were reported as a result of that fire.
As mentioned, students at Mitchell Woods will be shifting to remote learning where possible, while staff are not expected to report to work in person.
Buses and taxis to the school have also been cancelled for the day.
