Kitchener Rangers immortalizing team legends through banners, plaques

The Kitchener Rangers are one of the OHL’s most historic and storied franchises, and to complement that history, the team is immortalizing its most impactful figures through a new program.

The Level of Legacy program will see banners and commemorative plaques installed in order to pay tribute to the people who helped build the Rangers into the team they are today.

The inaugural inductees include Peter DeBoer, the most successful GM and coach in Rangers history, who won two OHL Championships and a Memorial Cup with the team before going on to have a successful two-decade career in the NHL, and Brian Bellows, captain of the Rangers’ first Memorial Cup-winning team back in ’82.

“Coaching and managing the Kitchener Rangers was an absolute privilege,” said DeBoer in a press release. “The Aud on a Friday night with the Ranger Nation out in full force is the fabric of this community, and my family and I are beyond honoured to be recognized in this way.”

DeBoer will be enshrined in Kitchener at The Aud on Nov. 7, followed by Bellows on Jan. 9.

“The Level of Legacy ensures that our greatest contributors are remembered not just for their stats, but for their lasting impact on our culture and community,” said Rangers COO Joe Birch in a press release. “Peter and Brian exemplify everything this honour stands for.”
