Hometown kid helps lead Soo to 4-2 final: Game 5 in Kitchener Friday

No longer playoff perfect.

The Kitchener Rangers faced their first postseason loss of 2026 Thursday night in Sault St. Marie. It was an Ayr hockey hero who would help lead the Soo to a 4-2 final.

Jordon Charron tied the game up 2-2 in the final frame, after the Kitchener Rangers held the lead for the first two periods.

The Greyhounds would later seal the deal with an empty-netter. Rangers Head Coach Jussi Ahokas said the team wasn’t even close to playing its best.

“Third period, there we were timid, we started defending our lead, we didn’t have offence, we just didn’t, and that’s why they go the rhythm, and it just turned,” said Ahokas.

“We learn from that, it’s playoffs, you have to be ready to play as many games as you need.”

The two Kitchener goals were scored by Cameron Arquette and Matthew Hlacar, a playoff first for both forwards.

Game 5 goes Friday night in Kitchener. If needed Game 6 would be back in the Soo on Sunday, Game 7 in Kitchener on Tuesday.

Tickets for Friday night’s game can be purchased here.
