It’s that time of year when students and staff head back to school and into the classroom, ready for another school year in Waterloo Region.
Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is out and about ensuring everyone stays safe, with a special reminder to motorists that local traffic patterns are set to change drastically.
“Back to school changes a lot of things about the flow of traffic, about the flow of pedestrians, and how we manoeuvre through these neighbourhoods and manoeuvre through the community,” said Staff Sgt. Scott Griffiths of the WRPS Traffic Services Unit.
“Buses are back out there again, crossing guards will be stepping out into intersections, and those are critical points where we want to avoid collisions, we want to ensure people can get to their school safely and get back home again.”
It’s not just motorists that need to keep an extra eye out. Regional police are reminding pedestrians and cyclists to stay visible.
Police officers will be out, especially this week.
Staff Sgt. Griffiths told 570 NewsRadio it’s all hands on deck, and officers will be out in school zones and neighbourhoods around the region.
Now, when it comes to those adorable first-day-of-school photos, WRPS are also reminding caregivers not to share too much information.
Grade level and favourite colours? No problem. Full name, teacher and school? Avoid it, and any other personal information.
