A new initiative at the Cambridge Food Bank is inviting businesses in Waterloo Region to come make the food or work in their gardens.
The food bank has launched its FoodForward campaign, with funds raised to go directly back to its food security programs.
It’s described as “immersive, hands-on workshops and team-building experiences centred around food rescue, sustainable food practices, and community engagement.”
CEO, Dianne McLeod, said businesses can sign up to bring their staff out for a gathering to help out the food bank with a variety of work they do to feed people in need.
McLeod told 570 NewsRadio, “teams will come in, they can cook, sort food, garden alongside us. They’ll see the Food Bank in action, learn new skills, and gain a deeper understanding of food insecurity in our community.”
She added, “These experiences help reduce stigma, build empathy, and spark conversation in the wider community.”
Non-profit and community organizations are also invited to join in through food or fundraising contributions.
The food bank would like to see 52 corporate groups join it for these team-building experiences, which would generate about $42,000.
They thank the Waterloo Region Community Foundation for a 2024 Community Grants that funded the branding, pilot, and launch of FoodForward.
