Cyclist in hospital, charges expected after Kitchener collision

A Kitchener cyclist is in hospital, and charges are anticipated, following a nighttime collision on Tuesday night.

It was around 10:10 p.m. when a Waterloo regional police responded to the intersection of Courtland Avenue East and Ottawa Street South in Kitchener.

Reports indicate that the call was for a collision between a cyclist on a mountain bike and a white Toyota SUV.

The cyclist, a 48-year-old from Kitchener, was taken to hospital with what’s been described as non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the involved Toyota, identified as a 26-year-old Kitchener man, was not injured.

While the collision is still under investigation by the service’s traffic unit, police have already indicated that they expect to lay charges.
