Arrests made eight months after fatal shooting at A Better Tent City

Two arrests have been made after a fatal shooting at A Better Tent City in Kitchener eight months ago.

Police were called to the tiny home community on Ardelt Avenue on the afternoon of Nov. 30 due to reports of shots fired.

Officers found a 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to an out-of-region hospital and later pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as a resident of A Better Tent City, with the community left devastated by the death.

Investigators called it a targeted incident, and over the past two days, two arrests have been made.

A 19-year-old Waterloo man, identified as Muhamad Taupan, has been charged with first degree murder.

A 22-year-old Ottawa man, identified as Omar Bashir, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Waterloo regional police are thanking several other services for help with the investigation; Peel police, Ottawa police, Toronto police, Windsor police, Peterborough police, and the Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement squad.
