Snow shovels and plows got to work early this year because November was one of the snowiest Waterloo Region experienced in the last century.
According to weather experts at the University of Waterloo, 59 cm of snow fell on the region last month, well above the average 11 cm of snowfall for November.
Those measurements were taken at the E.D. Soulis Weather Station, where experts had to go back to 1950 to find a November with more snowfall.
On Nov. 23, 1950, 61 cm of snow fell, leading to a month-long total of over 100 cm.
This year, those snowfall totals were helped along by a storm on Nov. 28 that brought 30 cm of snow in a single day.
Temperatures in November were about average, with a month-long low of -6.6 C and an average low of -1.2 C.
More snow is on the way for Tuesday, with 5-10 cm in the forecast and temperatures set to fall to -20 with the wind chill overnight. Snowfall continues into Wednesday with another 5 cm before sun and cloud on Thursday.
