Thoughts on tiny homes? Kitchener wants to hear from you

The City of Kitchener launched a number of initiatives to help address the lack of housing, one being the changes to zoning regulations made in March of 2024.

Now, the city is looking for feedback from residents in regards to those zoning changes through an online survey.

The new zoning allowed for tiny homes to be built on detached single-home lots, as well as triplexes, fourplexes, backyard homes, or for construction on the main building of a lot to allow for more units to be added.

Staff are looking to present a one-year follow-up assessment of the policy to the council to help with future zoning improvements.

In a release from the city, they said the purpose of the survey is to “better understand the challenges and outcomes of ADU development in the city.”

It’s open to anyone who has built or plans to build additional dwelling units on their property, lives in one, or has one in their neighbourhood.

The survey will be open until Monday, August 4th, and can be found at engagewr.ca/enablingfourunits.

It only takes four to seven minutes to fill out.
