Two arrested for a string of vehicle break-ins in Waterloo

Two suspects have been arrested, and multiple charges laid for a string of vehicle break-ins in a Waterloo neighbourhood.

Waterloo regional police reported on Wednesday they were searching for whoever committed at least nine such crimes in the span of just three weeks in the Northdale area, near the University District.

In the most serious case, police said the thief had taken bank cards from a vehicle and gone shopping with them.

Police had sent out a photo of a woman with bright red hair they were looking for in connection with a vehicle break-in from May 25, but investigators have since found out who she is, and the photo has been taken down.

Police said in a Thursday update that a 29-year-old woman from Kitchener, and a 36-year-old man from Cambridge were arrested for the break-ins.

They’re now facing thirteen charges, including break and enter, theft of a credit card, and charges related to breaching probation and conditions of release.

Police reminded everyone to always try to park in a safe location, lock your doors, and don’t leave valuables in your vehicle in plain sight.

People are also encouraged to report suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to police, ideally with a description of the people or person they’re calling about.
