$2.1M in illegal cannabis seized in ‘highly organized and complex’ grow-op

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid several charges against two people, one of whom is from Waterloo Region, after seizing thousands of illegal marijuana plants worth millions.

In a press release, police from the west region detachment were called to an address on Base Line in the Municipality of Central Huron, near Goderich, on Feb. 27. They were joined by investigators from Huron-Perth, Wellington, K9 handlers and people from the Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team.

When the teams executed a search warrant, they found over 4,000 marijuana plants, and “large quantities” of cannabis in various stages of production.

Officials said this was a “highly organized and complex drug grow operation.”

Over $2,150,000 worth of drugs were seized, the release notes.

As a result two people are facing offences under the Cannabis Act and are set to appear in court on April 20, in Goderich.

Lin Bingron, 43, from Waterloo is charged with possession for the purpose of distributing and cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling-house.

Jin Long Zeng, 61, from Central Huron is charged with the same offences.

Anyone with information on the investigation is being asked to contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 482-1677.
