Warm, humid, hazy days set to burst into Waterloo Region

By Justin Koehler

After a brisk spring, even a cooler start to June, some warm, humid, hazy days are getting set to burst their way into Waterloo Region this week.

The current forecast is calling for temperature highs of 27 C throughout Tuesday, set to peak in the afternoon, with the humidity making it feel even warmer, closer to 30 C at times.

It’s set to start off fairly seasonal, with temperatures of around 20 C expected by around 10 a.m., but it’ll only climb throughout the day.

570’s Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi said that the heat and humidity will be paired with some potentially hazy skies as well.

“We may see a little bit of haze pushing into southern Ontario today,” Andreacchi said. “We’re not expected to see an impact today on air quality, but we’ll keep an eye on that as there are still poor air quality statements through northwestern Ontario due to the wildfires.”

Andreacchi said it’ll be a stark jump to summer, set to kick around into Wednesday as well, with the forecast currently calling for a high of 29 C, with a humidex hitting boiling highs of 34 C.

“That is going to be one of the warmest and muggiest days that we’ve had in a very long time. May, we had a couple of really nice days, but it wasn’t consistent, and it was quite cool to wrap up May and to start June.”

It all comes after Waterloo Region broke a nearly 100-year temperature record on Monday, but in the opposite direction. During the early morning, temperatures hit a low of 0.1 C, a full degree below the previous record of 1.1 C set in 1927.

“It was a cooler wrap-up to May and a cooler start to June, but we are going to start to see a lot more consistency with our temperatures and that taste of summer for today and tomorrow,” mentioned Andreacchi.

She stated that the warmer temperatures will start to stick around now that June is in full swing, with summer just around the corner. Andreacchi said the current wind directions are ushering in a warm burst of “warm Gulf moisture that we’re really known for during June, July, and August.”
