Youth and parent on bicycles struck by vehicle in Cambridge

A youth and their parent were hurt and sent to hospital when they were struck by a vehicle while out cycling in south Cambridge.

Waterloo regional police said it happened at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Christopher Drive and Myers Road.

An initial investigation shows the involved vehicle, a Honda Civic, was headed south on Christopher and turned right onto Myers, striking the cyclists who were headed east in the westbound lane of Myers Road.

Police told 570 NewsRadio the cyclists, a 44-year-old woman and a male youth, were taken to a hospital in Waterloo Region with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Civic was not physically injured.

A social media post from police at 9:00 p.m. said the intersection was back open for traffic.

There was no immediate word about possible charges, and police said their investigation was ongoing.
