Rangers look to ride wave of momentum into game 6 against Spitfires

It isn’t over until it’s over.

The Kitchener Rangers are still alive in their playoff series against the Windsor spitfires after a solid 5-2 win on Friday for Game 5.

Kitchener came out strong with three unanswered goals between the first and second periods by their top line forwards; Jack Pridham, Trent Swick and Christian Humphreys. Windsor got on the board with a goal from Ilya Protas at 16:46 in the second, but Luca Romano would regain the Rangers’ three goal lead right before the end of the period.

Windsor added one more tally in the third from Josef Eichler, but would have any chances of a comeback snuffed out with an empty netter from Swick for his second goal of the game. Swick would also take home the game’s first star (two goals and an assist), with Humphreys named the second star (one goal, two assists).

The series now stands at 3-2 for Windsor.

570 colour commentator Paul Fixter said the penalty kill for the Rangers has been a factor in the last two games. They have not allowed a power play goal.

“They’ve kept this potent power play ineffective in the last two games,” said Fixter. “Windsor power play had gotten six goals in the first three games, getting two goals apiece. Kitchener has found a way to shut that high powered power play down.”

The Rangers will need all the support from their fans as they can get when they return to the Kitchener Aud on Sunday for Game 6. The team announced on Friday night at tickets are now on sale.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
