The Kitchener Rangers fell to the Attack in Owen Sound on Saturday, but were able to extend their point streak to five games with a 3-2 loss in shootout.
Evan Headrick opened the scoring for the Rangers with a lone goal in the first period. Christian Humphreys nabbed a goal of his own in the second to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.
Owen Sound cut into the deficit before the end of the second with a goal from Mason Wray. In the third, Max Bleicher tied the game to force overtime. No teams scored in the extra frame, sending the game into a shootout. It would only take two rounds, as Owen Sound capitalized on their chances to send the Rangers home with a lone point.
Four power play opportunities weren’t able to get past the Attack’s goalie Carter George, who made 50 saves, earning him first star honours. Carson Campbell of the Rangers would get the third star with two assists.
While the loss ended the Rangers’ four game win streak, the team did earn a point, making for seven points in the last three games. That extends their point streak to five games. They also became the second team to reach 90 points in the season, alongside the London Knights.
The East Avenue Blues are off for the week until Friday when they take on the Windsor Spitfires at the Memorial Auditorium.
