Guelph bus driver charged after city employee fatally struck

Guelph police have charged a city bus driver after a man was struck and killed on Jan. 8.
A 57-year-old Cambridge woman went to a Guelph police station on Feb. 9.
Scott Tracey, media relations officer with Guelph police, confirmed to CityNews Kitchener the woman was the bus driver at the time of the incident.
She was arrested and charged with criminal negligence causing death and careless driving causing death.
The collision happened at the Wyndham Street North and Carden Street intersection at around 1:37 p.m.
An investigation found that a 49-year-old Fergus man was hit as he crossed Wyndham Street by a Guelph Transit bus. The Guelph Fire Department was called to extricate the man from under the bus.
He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Officials later confirmed the man was an employee at the City of Guelph, the municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer said in a statement that staff are “mourning the passing” of the worker.
The accused it set to appear in court on March 28.
