The new Cambridge Reaction Complex officially has a name.
Starting early next year, swimmers, runners and more will be able to enjoy the Beneva Recreation Complex.
It comes after a $5.2 million sponsorship deal with Gore Mutual and the Gore Mutual Insurance Foundation.
Gore Mutual is set to integrate with Beneva next year, Canada’s largest mutual insurer.
Breaking the costs down, the sponsorship deal included $4 million from the Gore Mutual Insurance Foundation for community projects and programs. The naming rights ring in around $1.2 million.
“The Cambridge Recreation Complex is one of the most significant community investments in the city’s history, and we are grateful to the Gore Mutual Insurance Foundation and Gore Mutual for their continued commitment to Cambridge,” said Mayor Jan Liggett.
“This combined investment reflects Gore Mutual’s deep roots in our community. We look forward to challenging the Gore team to a swimming match!”
They’ll be able to compete in a 10-lane swimming pool once the complex is complete in early 2027.
“Since 1839, Gore Mutual has been rooted in this community, serving and protecting what matters most, “said Neil Parkinson, Chair of the Board of Directors, Gore Mutual and Chair of the Board of the Gore Mutual Insurance Foundation.
“As we merge with Beneva, this investment represents our continued commitment to Cambridge, our employees, neighbours and community we have proudly served for over 180 years. We are proud to stand alongside the City of Cambridge in ensuring a space that will continue to serve ‘People First’ for generations to come.”
The new complex will also feature a three-court gymnasium, an indoor walking and running track, and a new Cambridge Public Library branch.
