Wilfrid Laurier University quarterback Taylor Elgersma will be looking to make his mark as he is set to play in the Reese’s Seniors Bowl in Mobile, Alabama on Saturday.
The Reese’s Seniors Bowl showcases the best NFL prospects who are in their senior year and will features over 120 players from across the NCAA. Elgersma is the first Canadian university quarterback in USports history to ever be invited to the game and the first player USports since 1992. The last player from a Canadian university to play in the Seniors Bowl was linebacker Jordan Herdman-Reed out of Simon Fraser University in 2017.
Elgersma is one of seven quarterback to be invited to the Seniors Bowl this year, joining multiple NCAA quarterbacks including Jalen Milroe (Alabama), Riley Leonard (Notre Dame), Will Howard (Ohio State), and Dillon Gabriel (Oregon).
Laurier head coach Michael Faulds and offensive coordinator Todd Galloway accompanied Elgersma to Alabama. Faulds said it’s a “really cool” atmosphere and Elgersma has been making a name for himself.
“It’s been a great experience for Taylor,” said Faulds. “He’s soaking it all up and he looks like he belongs both on the field and we’re hearing great feedback from how he is interviews and meetings as well.”
During the 2024 season, Elgersma helped lead the Laurier Golden Hawks to an 11-1 record, which included a victory in the Yates Cup, the Uteck Bowl and an appearance in the Vanier Cup against the Laval Rouge et Or in November. He also won his consecutive OUA MVP award and the Hec Crighton award, which is awarded to the country’s top player. In eight regular season games, he threw for 2,643 yards, 20 touchdowns and an average of 330.4 yards, all first across USports.
According to Laurier Athletics, Elgersma has previously been invited to two events for all-star football players in the U.S. in recent weeks. He joined fellow Golden Hawk Ethan Jordan at the 2025 College Gridiron Showcase in Fort Worth, Texas between January 10-12 and was invited to the Tropical Stardom Scrimmage in Orlando, Florida between January 16– 19.
Faulds said the number of NFL teams interested in Elgersma has increased since last week, when eight teams showed interest. Faulds notes that Elgersma has met and spoken with all 32 NFL teams this week while in Alabama.
“Hearing his name called in late April at the NFL draft is definitely a possibility,” said Faulds. “he’s building momentum and steam. And if not, it’s not the end of the journey. There’s mini camps, other possibilities and the CFL draft as well.”
Elgersma is also the 20th ranked CFL prospect, according to the winter edition of the CFL Scouting Bureau.
The Reese’s Seniors Bowl airs on NFL Network on February 1 at 2:30 p.m.
