Police update case of what was reported to be child yelling for help

New information from Waterloo Regional Police shows it was not a child heard “yelling for help” from a car speeding through a parking lot in Kitchener.

An initial report from police on Saturday morning described a dangerous situation from late Friday afternoon, in the area of Ira Needles Boulevard and Highland Road West.

A witness told police about a white car speeding through the parking lot “with the passenger door open and a child’s arm hanging out of the vehicle. The child could also be heard yelling for help.”

Police sent out a security camera image of a white two-door convertible with its door open.

On Sunday afternoon, police sent out new information based on further investigation, and said it was not a child seen in the vehicle, but an adult woman.

Further, they said she “exited the vehicle safely.”

Police still need to understand what happened in that parking lot, and still want to hear from anyone who can help identify that vehicle and its driver.

Any witnesses, and especially anyone with dash-cam footage, is asked to call police, or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by clicking here.
