Three schools in Guelph were under lockdown and hold and secure on Wednesday afternoon because of a threat that was determined to be unfounded.
Guelph police first announced shortly after 3 p.m. that officers were on scene investigating what they called an “ongoing incident” at St. Michael Catholic School on McElderry Road. That elementary school, along with Jean Little Public School on Youngman Drive, were both under lockdown as a result.
Additionally, Rickson Ridge Public School on Rickson Avenue was put into hold and secure.
Both lockdowns and the hold and secure ended around 4 p.m.
Guelph police later said a threat was received at St. Michael’s, which triggered the lockdowns and hold and secure.
Investigators determined the threat was unfounded, thus the lockdowns and hold and secure were all lifted.
Officers remained on scene to make sure kids were connected with their parents or buses to get home safely.
