FunGuyz closing all magic mushroom dispensaries in Ontario

By Erin Anderson

It’s the end of the road for dozens of illegal magic mushroom dispensaries in Ontario.

FunGuyz has confirmed that it is closing all of its stores in the province, and it could happen by the end of the week.

“Once we close, that’s it,” said a representative for the chain. “We tried. We failed.”

The FunGuyz dispensary on King Street East in Cambridge has already shut down permanently.

The storefront first opened in November of last year, sparking controversy in the community. A few months later, FunGuyz opened a second local store on Victoria Street in Kitchener, but that closed this past spring.

Both the Kitchener and Cambridge locations were the subject of several police raids, as magic mushrooms remain illegal in Canada. FunGuyz cited the police activity for the decision to close the Ontario dispensaries.

In an anonymous interview with CityNews Kitchener back in 2023, FunGuyz said the stores were opened to provide people with psilocybin because they believe it offers therapeutic benefits and want Canadian drug laws changed.
