Portion of Weber reopened in Waterloo, power outage resolved

Some Waterloo residents may have started their morning without the coffee maker on Tuesday.

Enova Power Corp. reported several power outages just before 7 a.m., mainly centered around the area of King Street North and Columbia Street West.

Around 1 p.m. the Enova Power Corp. website reported power had been restored to the area.

According to Jeff Quint, manager of innovation and communications for Enova Power, the cause of the outage was damage to two poles in the Weber Street and Schaeffer Street due to a vehicle collision.

Waterloo Regional Police say the collision happened around 6:30 a.m., and that there were no injuries reported during the incident.

Weber Street between Blythwood Road and Albert Street remained closed as of 6:30 p.m.

That outage also prompted the closure of two nearby Waterloo Region District School Board schools for the day. The school board confirmed power was restored to both schools just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and both would reopen for in-person learning on Wednesday.
