City of Guelph teams up with local organizations for new drop-in space

The City of Guelph is teaming up with two local organizations to create a new drop-in space to help those experiencing homelessness.
Stepping Stone and Royal City Mission have reached a tentative agreement with the city on a new daytime drop-in space that will provide food, showers, and washrooms. The city said it will be committing $850,000 for the initiative for the next two years.
“Guelph’s most vulnerable residents need safe spaces during the day, and we’re proud to work with Stepping Stone and Royal City Mission to ensure people can access essential services,” said Jodie Sales, the General Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Intergovernmental Relations in a press release.
Royal City Mission will host the new space at their location at 50 Quebec Street starting on January 12, 2026 while construction undergoes at Stepping Stone’s location at 23 Gordon Street. Once construction is complete by April, the space will be moved there.
“Stepping Stone is proud to lead this important program, and we want to thank the City of Guelph for this new investment that makes this work possible,” said Gail Hoekstra, the Executive Director of Stepping Stone in a press release.
“Our goal is to provide a trauma-informed, low-barrier space that meets immediate needs while also supporting long-term housing success and community connection.”
More details on hours of operation will be confirmed on January 12 when the contact is finalized.
