Kitchener Rangers tame Niagara Ice Dogs in 4-2 win

The Kitchener Rangers have extended their point streak to seven games after defeating the Niagara Ice Dogs 4-2 on Friday night.

Niagara opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game with a goal by Alex Assadourian. But the lead would not last long as former Ice Dog Andrew Vermeulen scored his first as a Ranger to tie things at one apiece. Luke Ellinas would score one more before the end of the first to give Kitchener the 2-1 lead.

Kitchener would hold onto the lead, with Tanner Lam scoring two goals in the second and the third. Defenseman Cameron Reid finished the night with three assists.

570 colour commentator Paul Fixter said Rangers head coach Jussi Ahokas believes in his team and they “can beat any team.”

“Tonight, they went out and beat, not only the number eight team in Canada, but a team in the east that is first in the conference,” said Fixter.

Kitchener is now in first place in the Midwest Division and second in the Western Conference with 12 points.

The Rangers will travel down Highway 7 to take on their rivals, the Guelph Storm, for game two of their three-in-three series this weekend. Guelph will come to the Aud on Sunday as well.

Puck drop is at 4:07 p.m. and you can catch all the action on 570 News Radio starting with the pregame show with Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter starting at 3:30 p.m.
