Summer has come and gone, and specialists are checking their logs to see if weather in Waterloo Region broke any records.
It was a hot, wet couple of months, but temperatures and precipitation numbers were right around average according to Frank Seglenieks of the University of Waterloo.
June, July, and August were wetter than usual, with 263.8 mm of total precipitation, which is above the seasonal average of 214.8 mm.
Temperatures in Waterloo Region were one degree above average.
Looking ahead to September, there will be plenty of sunshine and warm afternoons according to 570 Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi.
Andreacchi says the clear skies could also lead to some cool temperatures in the overnight and early mornings.
“What tends to happen this time of year when we have really clear skies overnight, all that daytime heating escapes,” she said. “So, we do see those cooler overnights and morning lows.”
Andreacchi added that guardians may want to consider giving children an extra layer of warmth to head back to school in the morning on Wednesday.
“Early in the morning we are going to be on the cooler side, but highs tomorrow for the first day of school near 24,” said Andreacchi. “We have plenty of sunshine as well.”
