Three charged after allegedly hurling racial comments inside Kitchener restaurant

By Justine Fraser

Three youths have been charged following a weekend incident at a Kitchener restaurant.

Waterloo Regional Police responded on Sunday around noon to a disturbance inside that business near Ottawa Street South and Fischer Hallman Road.

It’s alleged the incident started with the youths making racial comments towards the people eating in the restaurants, and towards the staff. A physical altercation then occurred, leading to multiple arrests.

Two 19-year-old Kitchener males and a 17-year-old youth were arrested and charged with two counts of assault, mischief, cause disturbance, possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a Schedule 4 substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The younger 17-year-old was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unsafe storage of ammunition.

There were no reported injuries. Police have not specified how many people were involved in the fight, and have not named the restaurant.

All three suspects are now being held for a bail hearing.
