Steven Lorentz bringing the Stanley Cup to Waterloo next week

Hockey fans are pretty lucky here in Waterloo Region.

Last year, the region got a chance to meet Lord Stanley when Golden Knight’s Champ Nic Hague brought the cup to Kitchener, and now Florida Panthers centre Steven Lorentz is bringing hockey’s biggest trophy to Waterloo.

Lorentz attended Laurel Heights Secondary School and played for the Waterloo Wolves and the Siskins before being drafted into the Ontario Hockey League by the Peterborough Petes.

Lorentz’s dad Mark spoke with CityNews 570 after that massive Game 7 win, recalling what it was like seeing his son hoist the cup.

“I’m having a hard time even saying it! As he carried it (the Stanley Cup) towards me, we both had tears in our eyes because, it’s a dream come true. People don’t know how much hard work it takes and how many times people said ‘no this couldn’t happen, or you’re too small, you can’t do this, or you should do something else.’ To all the little kids out there, never ever give up on your dream, ever.”

The public can snap a picture with the Stanley Cup and meet the hockey star himself next Thursday afternoon at RIM PARK, between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
