Warmer weather for July: A look-ahead for Waterloo Region

A trend of warmer than average temperatures are expected to stick around Waterloo Region for July.

Peter Kimbell, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada said the month of June saw temperatures hover a degree above average with precipitation hovering at the average mark, and can expect the same for July.

He notes the next few weeks are a “goldilocks scenario” when it comes to weather.

“The big ridge of high pressure that affected us in the third week of June and gave us those hot temperatures.. that ridge is gone and we have a fairly active Jetstream, so we’ll have precipitation every few days.”

When it comes to potential smoke advisories due to forest fires, Kimbell said Ontario is in the clear for the most part as it has been wetter this year compared to last year.

He said some hotspots are currently near Alberta, British Colombia and the Northwest Territories as well as the northeastern side of Quebec.
