Different Don Cameron Potato Night in store for Rangers fans

One of best days to be a Kitchener Rangers fan is here.

It’s Don Cameron Potato Night at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, but the tradition is a bit different this year, and that’s not because the puck is dropping in the afternoon.

The Rangers are asking you not to haul a sack of potatoes and instead bring monetary donations for food banks and the House of Friendship.

The organization says the need for potatoes for community groups has gone down, but to continue the legacy of the late Rangers broadcaster, the Rangers still want to host the charitable game in Don Cameron’s name.

Members of the 1982 Memorial Cup winning Rangers will also be honoured pre-game.

The Rangers host the Kingston Frontenacs, who got the better of Kitchener in their last meeting. Kingston won 5-4 on Feb. 9.

You can catch the game on CityNews 570. The pre-game show with Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
