Ontario Provincial Police laid almost 1,500 impaired driving charges during their latest holiday RIDE campaign.
OPP ran the annual Festive RIDE initiative from Nov. 16, 2023 to Jan. 2, 2024.
A total of 42,464 drivers were stopped over the course of the 47-day campaign and 1,472 impaired driving charges were issued.
That’s up from last year’s campaign when 1,258 impaired driving charges were laid.
OPP said the drivers who were charged chose to ring in the new year facing the loss of their driver’s licence, other penalties, and a criminal record.
Police thanked all the other road users who made safety a priority over the holidays and acted responsibly.
