$11M safety improvement planned for busy Cambridge intersection

By Christine Clark

A year from now, a major intersection in Cambridge, will look a lot different.

Cambridge councillors approved significant safety improvements Tuesday night to the Samuelson Street and Beverly Street area.

Those safety concerns primarily for those of you walking or biking in the area or rather maybe avoiding walking or biking through the area because of a lack of options, and not wanting to get hit by a car.

The $11 million plan will help separate cyclists and pedestrians from traffic, with a multi-use trail, and a new pedestrian underpass at the tracks on Beverly.

It will also include watermain, sanitary sewer and storm sewer improvements.

This major project will of course mean traffic disruptions, even though it will be done in stages.

The Samuelson and Beverly Street intersection will be fully closed on and off again throughout all of next year, with early estimates predicting construction won’t fully wrap up until a year from now in December 2024.
