Stratford Police team up for a quarter-million dollar drug bust

More than a quarter-million dollars worth of drugs have been taken off the streets and multiple people have been arrested in a drug bust led by the Stratford Police Service.

“Project Sapphire” began last year with the SPS Street Crime Unit working with the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario to investigate cocaine trafficking in Stratford and nearby municipalities.

Last December, multiple search warrants were carried out in St. Mary’s, Woodstock, and London in partnership with the police services in those municipalities.

Stratford Police say a 37-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and a 52-year-old woman was charged with one count of the same charge.

The investigation continued into this month, with more drug raids and search warrants executed in Stratford and London.

In those raids, police said a 32-year-old man was charged with 12 counts of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

A 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were also charged with trafficking and possession, and a 48-year-old man was charged with trafficking and weapons offences.

Stratford Police said they’re working towards obtaining an arrest warrant for an unidentified 30-year-old man wanted on four counts of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Police did not say in which cities the accused persons live.

Stratford Police said Project Sapphire seized drugs with a street value of $266,000, including:

  • 90g crack cocaine;
  • 167 g of methamphetamine; and
  • 2473g of cocaine.

Police said they also seized approximately $91,000 in cash.

Stratford Police extend their thanks to all the agencies that helped with Project Sapphire, including police in Guelph, Woodstock, London, and the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario.
