Another COVID outbreak declared at Cambridge Memorial Hospital

A new outbreak of COVID-19 has hit Cambridge Memorial Hospital, just as a previous outbreak cleared away.

An outbreak was declared Thursday in the Inpatient Surgery Unit, in Wing C, level 3, with three cases of COVID in either patients or staff.

Visitors will not be allowed into the unit except for end-of-life situations; virtual and phone visits can be arranged.

All staff have to wear a mask in the unit at all times now, plus a face shield when they’re within two metres of a patient.

And every staff member has to have a negative radid antigen COVID test before they start their shift.

That includes staff who were in the surgery unit since the outbreak began, even if they’re working elsewhere in the hospital now.

Cleaning efforts have been increased and signage has been posted all around the unit.

If no new cases arise, the outbreak will automatically end on November 22.

It was only Wednesday when the last outbreak at CMH, in the Medicine B Unit, was declared over.

A statement from the hospital says, “The number of outbreaks is increasing in hospital, congregate and long-term care settings.”
