Rangers improve to 3-0 with win against Sarnia

The Kitchener Rangers’ impressive start to the season continued Wednesday night as they defeated the Sarnia Sting 3-1.

Following his two-goal effort on Saturday, Adrian Misaljevic opened the scoring just under seven minutes into the game, and the Rangers never trailed.

Carson Rehkopf had an assist on Misaljevic’s goal before scoring one of his own on the power play in the second period. Misaljevic picked up an assist on Rehkopf’s goal.

It was another strong night on special teams for the Blueshirts. Along with the power play goal, Kitchener killed off all six penalties they faced. That came after the Rangers went seven-for-seven on the penalty kill on Saturday.

“I liked our [penalty kill], we have to get our penalties down though, it will hurt,” said Head Coach Jussi Ahokas. “[Penalty kill] played really well.”

Tristan Malboeuf made his Rangers debut in net making 15 saves for the win.

“He played a great game, too bad that one goal, he kind of lost the puck and it went in,” said Ahokas. “Otherwise, I thought a great, stellar performance. Our team has two good goalies.”

Luke Ellinas scored his first career OHL goal with the net empty in the final minute of the game.

The Rangers return to The Aud to face the Owen Sound Attack on Friday.

Pregame with Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter begins at 6:35 p.m. on CityNews 570.
