Rangers stifle Firebirds for second straight win

By CityNews Kitchener staff

The Kitchener Rangers continued their strong start to the season on Saturday, crushing the Flint Firebirds 8-0.

Following a scoreless first period, the Rangers scored four times in the second and third to earn their first win on the road this season.

“Second and third period, I liked how we played, really, second period,” said Head Coach Jussi Ahokas. “That’s when we played our game, we’re playing good with puck position, we had speed, we went to the net, scored good goals.”

The Rangers had a strong night on special teams scoring twice on the power play, and killing all seven penalties they faced.

“We had a good meeting today, and [assistant coach] Brad Flynn was taking care of our [penalty kill],” said Ahokas. “[Friday] we let up two, and today I think the guys worked really hard.”

Seven different Rangers scored in the win including Adrian Misaljevic who scored twice.

Jackson Parsons made 28 saves for the shutout.

The Rangers return to the ice Wednesday night on the road against the Sarnia Sting.

Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter will have the call on CityNews 570 with pregame at 6:35 p.m.
