ACORN Waterloo Region plans march against ‘wrongful evictions’

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

A rally is taking place Sunday afternoon in Kitchener and it’s being held by ACORN Waterloo Region.

ACORN members will march against Mike Beer Investment to stop evictions of tenants from two buildings.

They say the evictions are happening for unnecessary renovation. The buildings on Traynor Avenue are affordable housing and they add that if tenants are forced out, they will have to pay a higher rent for a similar unit elsewhere.

The rally begins at Fairway Station on Kingsway Drive and will include a march to 267 Traynor Avenue.

ACORN stands for Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now and has over 20 chapters in 9 cities across the country.
