Community drug alert issued amid increase in overdoses/poisonings

A community drug alert has been issued following a staggering number of overdoses and drug poisonings within Waterloo Region.

The Waterloo Region Integrated Drugs Strategy announced the alert on Friday, noting 40 local overdoses/drug poisonings between May 31 and June 5.

According to the alert, there are no reports identifying which currently circulating substance is responsible for the noted increase.

Those who use illicit substances are warned to take precautions due to a dangerous, unregulated drug supply.

The Consumption & Treatment Services Site at 150 Duke Street West is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. – with an 8:30 p.m. last call.
