Missing man may have been seen in Guelph

A 37-year-old with Down syndrome, missing since last week, may have been seen in Guelph.

Toronto Police raised the search efforts to the highest level this week, looking for Nathan.

They are concerned that Nathan “does not have the ability to take care of himself for this amount of time.”

Scott Tracy with Guelph Police said Toronto Police were contacted about the possible sighting of Nathan in The Ward, just east of the downtown core of Guelph Thursday afternoon.

“We have officers checking the area in that neighbourhood, just to see if we can locate any surveillance video to either confirm or dispel that this is the person who is missing.”

Tracy stressed, “It’s important to remember we don’t know if this is the same person.”

Nathan is originally from Waterloo Region, recently moving to Toronto with family.

His family reported his disappearance after finding out he was not under supervision when they thought he was.

Waterloo Regional Police have been contacted but say the extent of their involvement is only to share information on social media.

He is described as four feet six inches tall and 170 pounds, and has a full beard and moustache.

Investigators said Thursday they have expanded their efforts to encompass a 500-metre search radius of the area, up from 300. The “all hands on deck” approach includes Toronto police mounted units and police dogs.

Police said Nathan was last seen around 7 p.m. on May 12 in the Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West area of North York.
