Motion hearing cancelled for pending inquest into death of Terry Baker

There’s another update on a pending inquest into the death of an inmate who was serving a life-sentence for first-degree murder at a Kitchener prison.

Earlier this month on May 15, it was announced that a motion hearing on the death of Terry Baker was scheduled for May 23.

On May 19, we learned that hearing was pushed to June 1. No reasoning was listed for the postponement.

Then on May 30, The Ministry of the Solicitor General announced the motion hearing had been cancelled.

An e-mail statement to CityNews Kitchener said, “The parties came to agreement so there was no need to proceed. The inquest will still be held but dates have not been set for it yet.”

Baker died in hospital in the summer of 2016 after being transferred from the Grand Valley Institution for Women.

An inquest into her death is mandatory under the Coroners Act and was initially scheduled to begin in April.
