GRT bus service set to resume as striking workers ratify new collective agreement

The strike impacting Grand River Transit bus service is officially coming to an end.
Members of Unifor Local 4304 ratified a new collective agreement with the Region of Waterloo on Tuesday.
It means GRT bus service will resume on Thursday.
Buses have been parked since the job action was triggered last Monday.
The union had initially reached a tentative deal the weekend before the strike but that wasn’t ratified, prompting the job action.
This latest deal was struck this past weekend and union members gave it the ‘thumbs up’ during their ratification vote on Tuesday.
According to the union, the collective three-year agreement includes an 11 per cent increase for workers in total, as well as increased benefits and improved scheduling.
The Region of Waterloo confirmed GRT service will fully resume Thursday and that no bus or ION fares will be required until May 22 because of the recent disruption.
Transit users who purchased a monthly pass prior to May 8 will also receive a June pass at no cost. More details can be found by clicking here.
