Miltons Restaurant in Kitchener closes its doors

By Brad Kraemer

A Kitchener restaurant surrounded by controversy for over a year now has shut down.

Miltons Restaurant, located at 2979 King Street East, was put up for sale in September 2022 at a price of $495,000, but that's since been reduced to $395,000.

It's not clear if the property has been sold.

Miltons was embattled in controversy since November 2021 after a viral video showed two men, who appeared to be staff, allegedly forcibly remove a man with a service dog from the restaurant after he was asked to show his legal papers for the dog.

The restaurant was put under heavy scrutiny after the video surfaced. Protests took place outside of Miltons and many people boycotted them altogether.

A court case also followed, with two men in their fifties getting charged with assault. However, those charges were withdrawn in October after the men apologized, and made a donation to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

The future of the property remains an unknown.
