Police arrest correctional officer after reported ‘sexual relationship’ with inmate

By Luke Schulz

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a man in connection to a sexual assault investigation – after receiving reports of a 'sexual relationship' between a correctional officer and an inmate at the Grand Valley Institution for Women.

According to regional police, it was in April of 2022 when staff at the women's prison made a report to authorities about that relationship.

The service's Special Victims Unit and General Investigations Unit commenced an investigation, resulting in a 43-year-old Cambridge man being arrested on December 9.

The accused has since been charged with sexual assault and breach of trust, and is set to appear in court on January 9, 2023.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
