Ontario Provincial Police are still investigating a collision that happened in the Conestoga Parkway area in Kitchener earlier this week.
OPP were called to the area just after 9 a.m. on May 29.
OPP Highway Safety Division Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the collision involved a wheel that came flying off a tractor-trailer hauling a farm trailer. That tractor trailer was travelling southbound on Conestoga Parkway.
“That wheel bounced over the median into the oncoming traffic, colliding with head of with a white vehicle that was travelling northbound. It got redirected back to the other side of the highway again where it struck a third vehicle — another trailer.”
There were no reports of any serious injuries.
OPP and the Ministry of Transportation did investigate the truck that lost the wheel. After inspection, charges were laid due to defects around the administration of the vehicle.
Schmidt noted they get hundreds of wheel separation calls, and many more happen without their knowledge.
OPP is reminding drivers to make sure every wheel is secured on their vehicles if they recently put on new tires or did a tire change.
The investigation is still ongoing.
