Long-term construction begins on King Street in Waterloo

Happening in several stages, construction on King Street in the university district of Waterloo began on May 31.
According to Region of Waterloo's transportation team, the series of steps include work between June and November, and recommencing in spring of next year.
As of now, King Street is closed between University Avenue and Central Street until Sunday, November 28, but that timeline is subject to change.
Work will be done between University and James Street, which started this month, and is expected to go until November.
The next section of road will involve the stretch between University and Lodge Street, and will last until roughly September.
Lane closures at the King and University intersection will begin in July of this year, and will remain in place for four weeks.
Once the work is done this fall, it will resume in spring of 2022, with the final section of the streetscape to be done between James Street and Central Street.
A number of improvements will be made in the district, including road reconstruction, sewer and watermain replacement, utility work, travel lane reconfiguration, traffic medians, wider sidewalks, segregated bike lanes, decorative lighting, landscaping, transit shelters, and a new “gateway feature” which will be located near the King and University intersection.
