GRT reduced fare rates ending July 1 for students, seniors

Grand River Transit (GRT) announced Thursday that starting July 1, they will no longer be offering discounted fare rates for seniors, elementary and high school students.
However, they noted there will be no change to cash fares, regular monthly passes or stored value payments for the second year.
The change is part of the Affordable Transit Program (ATP), as GRT shifts from age-based discounts to ones based on income, in an effort to offer more affordable transit to people living with low-income.
The ATP will offer a 48 per cent discount on monthly passes or fares loaded on transit cards.
Eligibility for the program is based on income. For example, a one-person household would need to make an annual income of $18,900 or less; a household with five people would need to make a total annual income of $41,580 or less.
Seniors and students can continue using their existing EasyGO fare cards and don’t need to replace them. MobilityPLUS customers with reduced tickets can continue to use them until the end of 2021.
