Region’s top doctor glad Ontario’s three-step reopening plan is ‘slow and cautious’

By Tim Herd

On Friday, the region held a virtual COVID-19 community update. During the meeting, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang expressed that she is glad the province's three-step roadmap to safely reopen is slow and cautious because it is exactly what we need, however, the region is still at a critical moment.

“To let up now, and relax our precautions too quickly would put all our gains at risk, please continue to limit your mobility and avoid close contact with those outside of your household, so we can have a better summer for all.”

Dr. Wang also mentioned that she is concerned with the Victoria Day long weekend, especially with the province also announcing on Saturday at 12:01 a.m., outdoor social gatherings will expand to five people, as well as outdoor recreational amenities will reopen, but with restrictions.

So, she urges all residents to continue to follow all public health measures, however, if someone decides to gather with others outside of their household to the legal limit, do it outside, and not indoors.

“Indoors is riskier than outdoors, all the other restrictions remain in place, we need to take the reopening in a stepwise, cautious manner, or else we risk rebounding, and not being able to close off this third wave.”
