Closure of St. John school extended to March 11

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The closure of St. John Catholic Elementary School in Kitchener will continue for a few more days.

It was set to reopen March 8, but that has been moved to March 11.

The decision to close the school was made in late February due to the high number of COVID-19 cases.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there were 12 confirmed cases listed on Region of Waterloo Public Health's COVID dashboard.

In a letter to parents, the school's principal wrote they will see the safest possible reopening of the school after all of the current individual and class quarantines are completed.

“By doing so we know that everyone has been away from the school community for a minimum of 14 days since the last attendance of a person that tested positive.” said Paul Gladding.

Students have been learning remotely during the school closure.

Gladding added that nurses with public health were at the school on Wednesday and were happy with the measures the school has put in place.
