Online retailer Amazon will be setting up a second delivery station in the region.
On Wednesday morning, it announced it plans to open one this fall at 100 Shirley Avenue in Kitchener, in a repurposed 120,000 square foot building.
It's expected to create hundreds of full and part-time jobs.
“We’re pleased that Amazon has chosen the City of Kitchener and continues to expand its investment in the Region through the establishment of another delivery station. As a global player in 21st century retail, Amazon’s new delivery station will create both new permanent job growth as well as small business opportunities for local entrepreneurs interested in establishing delivery businesses,” Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic said in a release.
The company calls its delivery stations an integral part of its distribution chain.
Packages are transported to delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centres, and then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers.
In August, Amazon announced it would be opening a delivery station at 125 Maple Grove Road in Cambridge.
On Wednesday, the company also said it's building new fulfillment centres in Hamilton and Ajax, which will lead to the creation of 2,500 full-time jobs.
